UNDERWORLD - BBC R1 John Peel Live Session, 2003 (Flac)

In 1999, the John Peel Show broadcast on BBC Radio 1 returned to it's original time slot, 10pm to midnight.

It saw an upturn in the programme's fortunes and together with new ideas from Peel's new producer, Anita Kamath, regained many listeners lost to the shunting around of the show at unsuitable times.

As well as the usual sessions broadcast from Maida Vale, bands were also invited into Peel's home for intimate live sessions.

New producer, Louise Kattenhorn oversaw superb live sessions broadcast in the final years of the show - 2003-04, from the likes of Lift To Experience, Mogwai, Super Furry Animals, The Flaming Lips, Black Keys, Orbital and Underworld.

The Peel sessions book by Ken Garner lists tracks performed as the following:

Leulin, Trim, 2 Months Off, Jumbo, Moaner and Nuxx/Born Slippy,

CD (rip not known) from sound desk recording. Lossless spectrum, more dynamic waveform.

John Peel talking:

Sky digibox (192Kbps BBC Radio1 broadcast) > analogue interconnect > Pioneer PDR-509 (standalone CDR) > EAC (secure mode) > Soundforge > Flac (level8, sector boundary aligned, verified)

Original uploader's notes:

The first 12 seconds is taken from the BBC webcast, and is only John Peel's introduction, cross faded quickly at the start of the crowd's cheer.

The sound-desk CD only had John Peel's voice as crosstalk picked up another microphone, and no start introduction. It sounded a little odd, so I have cross faded to the 192Kbps digital source to cover the 'thank you' and the end speech.

I have also adjusted the volume slightly to even out the recording.

A huge 'Thank You' to Mark3 and Jetpig of RTSR for making the new CD source available. This supersedes the torrent of the 192Kbps digital broadcast.
