TOM WAITS - We're All Mad Here: A Conversation... (Flac)

PINK FLOYD - Dark Side of the Radio - Wish You Were (Flac)

Those who have visited the blog for sometime will know that I use the term bootleg with a fluidity and include promos and radio shows, not generally available to the public.

This post was influenced by the fact that next month, Pink Floyd's album 'Wish You Were Here' will see the 50th anniversary of its release.

I'm sure the monthly music mags will not let this anniversary pass without a feature. David Gilmour is already on the cover of 'Record Collector.'

Some facts, 'Wish You Were Here' was one of the first records I bought as a boy growing up in the seventies and consequently has always been special to me.

I would go backwards to discover ' Meddle' and then 'Dark Side of The Moon.' It would be sometime later that I heard a completely different Floyd, from the 60's including Syd Barrett.

Coming off the back of a Winter UK tour in 1974. Floyd began the New Year in recording sessions at Abbey Road from Monday 6 January to Monday 3 March, before heading to North America & Canada for live dates in April.

Further recording sessions took place at Abbey Road between Monday 5 May and Thursday 5 June, the latter date when Syd Barrett turned up as the band were listening to playbacks of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond.'

The band continued their North American & Canadian tour throughout the month of June. The band performed at Knebworth in England on Saturday 5 July before continuing with final sessions for the album between Monday 7 July to Saturday 19 July.

Wish You Were Here was released on Friday 12 September, and the following day in the US.

UK weekly paper, the Melody Maker declared that the album 'sucks'! (Dates and info from Glen Povey's book Echoes)

Blog Update

Thanks to all who still visit this blog. As you can see, the last post was in February, since then I have been through pre-treatment and then radiotherapy for prostate cancer.

It's been a tough few years and it's heartening that this blog is still popular, even with the so many ways of listening to bootlegs now, Youtube etc.

I have been told it will take between three to six months before I get back to some kind of normality.

For all those requesting re-ups, keep doing so and later in the year I will get those posted that I can. I will also detail reasons for those I can't.

I have also just noticed that the donor button isn't working. I'm not sure what is going on there and will get it sorted.

As well as re-ups there are a few new titles worth uploading. Before ill health prevented me from further work I was working on the final edition of the PDF document available to donors, hopefully it will be ready in time for the festive season. I've tightened it up so that you can immediately read which are the best bootlegs by certain popular artists.

If you are on the wrong side of 50, ask your Doctor for a PSA test, particularly if cancer has affected members of your family.                (Men only of course).

Take care and enjoy the summer.

TOM WAITS - Barfly On The Wall: TV Performances - 1983-2015

TOM WAITS

Barfly On The Wall 1983-2015
Various Television Broadcasts
(2018 version)

"This is a Norwegian compilation by The Bergen Boys. Thank you very much to Berge And Øystein for bring so kind as to share this compilation with us. Their first Barfly On The Wall version is from 2015 it sounded like a tight gig.The artwork is hilarious. Quality - A+"  the above from the uploader's notes.

The Basement67 says "It features twelve Letterman performances from 1983 to 2015, plus one apiece from Fallon, Leno, O'Brien, Stewart and the Arsenio show.
Sound quality is superb, this is a fantastic boot and absolutely essential for any Tom Waits fan.
If you're not, download it for the future before it inevitably gets butchered as and the audio or video performances appear on official releases.
I have three tracks included on the Forgotten Orphans series Volume 5, Chicago, Chocolate Jesus and Raised Right Men. I also had five earmarked for a proposed Volume 6 of the Forgotten Orphans series. There are nine tracks new to me here and seriously this collection would make a worthy Volume 6 in its own right, with a little editing and tidy up."

The CURE - Jo Whiley show, BBC Radio 2FM - 31 October 2024

For an established band to receive so much attention and promotion from the BBC for their new release, is quite rare and a measure of how highly the band are regarded. 'Songs Of A Lost World' is their first album since the release of '4:13 Dream' in 2008.

The Cure rose to the challenge and delivered a stunning session on the 'Huw Stephens show' and followed up with this immmaculate live performance at the Radio Theatre in London.

With all the hype and excitement over these broadcasts a month ago, it was great to see that as a medium, radio is not dead and still has an important role in today's on-line community.

I recorded the complete Jo Whiley show, which included the band's set (minus encore) and the in-depth interview with Robert Smith and Jo that followed.

Here it is presented in two parts, further down is the encore which was broadcast on the Zoe Ball morning show. Those four tracks were captured from the UK BBC i-player.

BBC Radio 2FM - Thursday 31 October, 2024. 7-9pm: The complete Jo Whiley show (as broadcast)

7:00 to 8:20pm: The Cure perform in front of a small audience of lucky fans at the BBC Radio Theatre.

05. A Night Like This (4:19)
